GEO appoints new Secretariat Director

Effective July 1, 2021, The Group on Earth Observations (GEO) is pleased to announce the appointment of Yana Gevorgyan as the next GEO Secretariat Director.

Yana Gevorgyan is an international relations expert with extensive experience in humanitarian relief and development, international think tanks and government organizations.

She is the GEO Program Manager at the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) National Environmental Satellite and Data and Information Service (NESDIS).

She is an experienced inter-cultural communicator, having strong skills in establishing ties between diverse communities at global and regional levels.

On her new appointment, Ms. Gevorgyan shared that she has always been inspired by the positive force of people’s collective will and action. GEO is a manifestation of this force, and it has been her privilege to have worked with GEO for more than a decade.

She is excited to begin this important global leadership role in Earth observations at a time when GEO has gained strong momentum, enabled by the services of the GEO Secretariat.
