Kier BAM JV turns to Trimble for HS2 logistics support

The Eiffage Kier Ferrovial BAM (EKFB) joint venture has appointed Trimble and Totalmobile to support its transport and logistics operations on its HS2 contract. Trimble and Totalmobile have co-developed a vehicle management booking system and an integrated inventory management system. The system is expected to enable the EKFB to watch, manage, and analyze the status and site of its subcontractors’ vehicles and inventory in real-time.

The software’s reporting and evaluation capabilities will allow EKFB to supply near real-time updates to HS2 Ltd. It will help prevent potential delays and support contractor compliance. The new system is a combination of Totalmobile’s Mobilise mobile workforce management application along with the Trimble MAPS platform of economic mapping, routing, navigation, and site APIs. Using Trimble MAPS’ map visuals, route planning, and execution cloud software, EKFB fleet managers will be able to plan routes that automatically take account of HS2 Ltd’s strict capacity and routing compliance requirements.

Satnav link-up

EKFB’s subcontractors’ drivers will also be provided with Totalmobile’s Mobilise app integrated with Trimble’s CoPilot truck-specific satnav application. This allows EKFB to speak directly with each delivery vehicle, supported live data feeds, and potential route deviation alerts from the system. According to a report by Bimplus, Peter Bimson, operations director at EKFB, said that historically, the management and monitoring of routes has been the responsibility of carriers or shippers; however, Totalmobile and Trimble’s innovative solution hands that control to them.

Jim Darragh, CEO at Totalmobile, said that their collaboration with Trimble has combined their best-of-breed software to deliver a revolutionary system that will provide the amount of performance and compliance monitoring that is essential for major infrastructure projects. This system is the first of its kind within the market and a true game-changer.
